BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 6,543,882 as of Wednesday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union, said the death toll from the pandemic stands at 166,234 while 5,761,284 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 136 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total tally in the country to 64,589.

The new infections included 130 locally transmitted cases, of which 27 were linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster and two belonged to the KTV cluster.

RABAT - - Morocco on Wednesday reported 9,428 new COVID-19 cases, the biggest single day increase so far, taking the number of infections in the country to 597,876.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 550,882 after 1,766 new ones were added, the ministry of health said in a statement.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 2,396 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the tally of infections in the country to 866,866.

The death toll from the virus in Israel rose by one to 6,462, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 145 to 149.

HAVANA -- Cuba reported on Wednesday a new daily record of COVID-19 cases after registering 9,323 COVID-19 infections in one day, for a total of 358,378 cases, in addition to 68 more deaths, to total 2,560.

"We have had seven consecutive days with more than 7,000 cases," national director of hygiene and epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health Francisco Duran noted during his daily report.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Wednesday registered 22,291 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 5,660,469, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 76 to 51,124, while 4,197 more people recovered in the last 24 hours.

A total of 257,474 tests were conducted over the past day, it said.
