BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.07 percent, at 3,621.26 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.95 percent higher at 15,520.6 points.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 5836.18 points, up 8.62 points from Wednesday's finish.

Among a total of 360 issues traded, 132 registered gains and 143 incurred losses while 85 remained unchanged.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved down 2.21 points, or 0.15 percent to close at 1,513.51 points.

Some 28.67 billion shares worth 99.00 billion baht (about 3.32 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower on Thursday.

Market benchmarks failed to hold altitude and ended with losses.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 49,624.76, 167.36 points or 0.34 percent down compared to its previous close at 49,792.12.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,594.80, down 6.74 points, or 0.42 percent and the Emas was at 11,533.37, down 61.29 points, or 0.53 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.61 percent, or 18.38 points, to close at 3,017.15.

A total of 3.75 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.5 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.13 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 274 to 228.

HANOI -- The stock market index of Vietnam's capital, HNX-Index, closed at 240.27 points on Thursday, up 7.02 points or 3.01 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 157 stocks went up, 62 stocks dropped, while 134 stocks remained unchanged.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 1,164.21 points on Thursday, up 29.53 points, or 2.6 percent against the previous trading day.

Over 721.9 million shares worth nearly 15.8 trillion Vietnamese dong (685.2 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 1.22 points, or 0.19 percent, to close at 642.75.

A total of 37,036 shares worth 88.2 million riels (21,750 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said, adding that 89 percent of the traded shares belonged to Phnom Penh SEZ, Plc (PPSP), 3 percent to Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PWSA), and 3 percent to Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index ending at a 30-year high on expectations for more stimulus measures under new U.S. President Joe Biden to underpin the pandemic-hit economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 233.60 points, or 0.82 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 28,756.86, marking its highest closing level since Aug. 3, 1990.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market rose to a new 11-month high on Thursday, with tech stocks leading gains.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 53.30 points or 0.79 percent at 6,823.70, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 56.10 points or 0.80 percent at 7,107.10.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, jumped by 0.66 percent to 13,112 on Thursday.

The jump was led by The New Zealand Refining Company Limited, which went up by 7.84 percent to 0.55 NZ dollars (0.4 U.S. dollars), while Rua Bioscience Limited dropped by 3.57 percent to 0.54 NZ dollars.

SEOUL -- South Korean stocks ended higher Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 46.29 points, or 1.49 percent, to settle at 3,160.84. Trading volume stood at 1.33 billion shares worth 24.6 trillion won (22.4 billion U.S. dollars).
