KABUL -- A powerful explosion rocked downtown Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, at around 7:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

The exact location of the explosion is not yet known, but a powerful sound of explosion was heard in Wazir Akbar Khan area of the city, near the cluster of embassies.

TOKYO -- The Tokyo metropolitan government on Tuesday issued what Governor Yuriko Koike has called a "Tokyo alert" to warn against possible COVID-19 resurgence.

The alert served as a call for caution among the public. If the number of confirmed cases further rises, the Tokyo government plans to issue requests again to businesses and people to halt operation and avoid social activities. (Japan-Tokyo-COVID19)

MANILA -- The Philippines has suspended for six months its termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) with the United States, Philippine Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin said on Tuesday.

In a diplomatic note to the U.S. embassy dated June 1, Locsin said that the suspension is being made "in light of political and other developments in the region." (Philippines-U.S.-VFA)

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 544 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 35,836.

Of the new cases, 99 percent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing. (Singapore-COVID19-Cases)

KATHMANDU -- With the record high single day spike shown on Tuesday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal has crossed the 2,000 mark, a senior official of Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said.

"Total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 2,099 with 288 new cases on Tuesday," Bikas Devkota, spokesperson at the ministry said in a regulator press briefing on Tuesday. "Among newly infected people, 270 are men and 18 are women." (Nepal-COVID19-Cases)
